  • Very enjoyable and at the moment, better than the 00. Cigar box and blackcurrant aromas, then the usual slightly spicy blackcurrant and cherry flavours, with good grip and structure. Just lacks that mid-palate sparkle of the great vintages, otherwise excellent.

  • P&P but needing four hours plus in a decanter to start singing. Served at 13C. Dark crimson colour but mature appearance on the nose with aromas of pencil, rotten roses, four-squared mint, earth and mushrooms. Very Paulliac-like rather than a truly Saint Julien.
On the palate showed dry and short. Good at its best.
For this useful vintage a honest, very dry and attractive St.Julien bottle. In my view this needed extra cellaring.
Tried to match it with a leg of young lamb for lunch. Consumed during the evening. I am a patient man.

Servido a 13C.

  • Consistent notes to prior bottle. 2-hour decant seemed right though also approachable earlier. I'm less convinced than previously that this wine will improve significantly beyond here, though it's certainly not declining.

  • Over the hill - too bad. One bottle left. Will pull soon and give it a try...

(Chateau Lagrange St Julien) This is slightly more aromatic than Les Fiefs from the same vintage, although it is predominantly the nutty and mocha aromas of youth. Quite balanced and elegant on the palate, with a gentle structure, showing some depth on the midpalate and finish. Not very expressive at the moment, but has potential. I think this will be drinking well in 2-3 years, perhaps a little longer. Very good.
