  Dirty and slightly oxidized on the nose with hints of root vegetables and earthy oats laying over spicy red fruit aromas laced with mint and ivy. Soft and fruity on entry, this starts out rather open knit and short before really falling away on the backend revealing obvious, dry tannins, a light baked fruit note, and some moldy inner mouth perfumes. Indistinct, I mixed this up with the Breton.

  1995s Blind -- Torture: Served single-blind in a flight of four. Quite different and less ripe than the two wines that preceded -- an actual Brunello where no one tried to launder in some Cab or Merlot? The fruit here is sweet red cherries with a strong minty note, plus some smokey character and a lot of earthy/mulchy funk. This is still rather tannic and starting to dry out, there's not enough fruit concentration to balance the tannins, but the tannins are actually rather elegant for Sangio (which I find can be quite rough) and the fruit is quite pretty, with a real palate-staining finish. Should be drunk now, with hearty food to balance the structure.

  Drank at Ned wine tasting comparing the 95 and 2007. The 95 was by far voted the WOTN. Fairly light color, showing amber on the edges. Nose of various savory elements, mushrooms, leather and earth. The 2007 nose couldn't compare to the older wine, was far fruitier and more astringent on the palate, with a bolder ruby red coloring, showing no signs of age. The fruit (mostly dried cherries) was somewhat faded on the 95, but more than adequately replaced by tertiary elements. This wine just oozed mushrooms and truffles and spice, but all extremely well integrated with the remaining fruit and soft tannins. The 07 was also spicy, but laced with pepper and harsher tannins. I scored the younger bottle a 92, and definitely enjoyed it. The 95, however, had that 'wow' factor and really blew me, and most others, away. I had no expectations for this wine so it's fab showing made it that much more enjoyable. I'd guess this wine has peaked but no rush to drink it. I hope I have some more in the cellar.

That said, still a very nice bottle of wine and fairly priced at what I paid. I would like to try this in 99 or 01 if the price was right.
