A private lunch (Restaurant Bak, Amsterdam, NL): No mention of any quality level on the front label or on the back. Just "Cosecha de 1970". Very mature appearance, completely bricked through; mature aromas of lovage, candied fruit and nuts; fresh and honeyed palate, bright acidity remains well integrated, hints of citrus; light finish, good length. Un viejo señor, but still walking without a stick.

This was just an exceptionally good bottle of this. Pretty sure it had been opened and decanted for maybe 30-40 minutes before we actually drank it. It was ready from the beginning and one of my favorites that we had this evening. There was just a hint of the fruit still hanging out. Lots of life. Very bright and open. A bit more earthy and savory in style as the dominant flavors. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

A private lunch (Restaurant Zarzo *, Eindhoven, NL): Perfect cork, very top shoulder level. Elegant and fresh, wonderful acidity, transparent and pure, gentle warmth from the wood, spices, vestiges of red berry fruit, slender, not unlike an old Pinot Noir, slightly metallic, dry but not austere (just), good length. Like the Tondonia Blanco 6º Año 1971 also tasted today, slightly creaking, but incredibly youthful and still a lovely drink.

(Lopez de Heredia Rioja "Vina Tondonia") This is a great Tondonia. Youthful color with nose of dark fruits. Very primary, animal nose but with some serious fruit. Palate was deep and very concentrated and also youthful. Amazing that this is over thirty years old. Really mouthfilling and lacey with a great finish. This is showing great but has ALOT of time to get better.
