Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • This time bottom end of cork broke off into bottle. Filtered and decanter right away. Notes consistent with previous. A bit more acid and a bit less sour than I remember the last bottle. Interesting, but nothing great.

  • Vintage Merlot Night. Cork came out nicely with ah-so. Bottom 3/8" of cork is saturated, but no racing stripes. Nose was very muted upon opening unlike some of the other merlot's. After an hour in the bottle, nose has turned pretty funky. Poured half a bottle into decanter to blow off. Color was very reminiscent of a tawny port. Not quite ruby, but not completely browned. Good balance between acid and fine grain tannin, but not awesome. This was one of the less favorite bottles of the night, but considering this bottle was probably <$10 upon release it showed well. Still a bit of fruit that has turned a little sour, and secondary notes of leather and some earth.
