  • Really excellent, smooth, balanced, better than the last time we drank this 10 years ago!

  • nice structure, aromas of tar and leather, I don't think that it would profit from more cellaring so start to drink up the remaining bottles

  • Vin qui a passé son peak depuis un bout de temps.
    L'alcool sempble détaché du vin.
    Acidité trop faible.
    Feuilles mortes, boue, fumier.

  • 12,5% alcohol.

Moderately developed pomegranate color with a pale, brick-orange rim. Somewhat restrained, subtly sweet-toned and pretty attractive nose with layered aromas of wizened red cherries, some sweet raisiny tones, a little bit of mocha and smoky nuances of oak, light vanilla tones, a hint of developed leathery character and a lifted touch of balsamic VA. The wine is lively, medium-bodied and bright on the palate with intense, dry flavors of sour cherries, tart cranberries, some developed tobaco and beef jerky tones, a little bit of crunchy dark fruit, a hint of dusty earth and a touch of savory oak spice. Overall the wine feels quite lean, but not too much. The high acidity and somewhat grippy medium tannins are perfectly balanced with the body and the flavors, lending good sense of structure to the wine. The finish is moderately grippy, nuanced and savory with lengthy flavors of earthy spices, sour cherry bitterness, some crunchy cranberry tones, a little bit of leather, light raisiny tones and a hint of savory and slightly peppery oak spice.

A beautiful, classic and wonderfully structured Sangiovese at its plateau of maturity. The nose promised a wine with more sweetness and quite modern character, whereas the wine was beautifully old-school with great structure and nicely crunchy, dry and subtly bitter character. Most likely the wine will keep for many years more, but I doubt there is much room for further development. Drink or keep for a handful of years. A thoroughly impressive and delicious vintage of Tignanello. Highly recommended.
