Dark red color with only the slightest fading at the edges. The nose is dark fruited but not all that attractive, black cherry, blackberry. The palate follows the nose with black cherries, blackberries along with blueberry and bitter-sweet chocolate. Fine tannins, good balance and acidity. Finishes long with dark fruits. More than a bit primary. At this point does it need 3 to 5 years to develop (even at 16 years old already)? Or is it just not that good? I have always felt that Wells did better with Pinot than with Syrah, maybe this just an example. I put it in the fridge and came back to it the next day and it was a mess. A hard wine to get a handle on. On balance I’ll give it 85 points. YMMV.

Alex's Birthday Party (Yan's China Bistro, Walnut Creek, Ca.): Nose of mushroom, forest floor, medicinal, black berry, and a touch of herbs same on the palate, big body in this magnum format, fairly fruit forward, very tasty, juicy fruit, needs five years to peak, and a long finish.

tasted blind and ranked 5/10 (group 4th). consensus was this was not a bad wine.. but clearly a manufactured wine. loads of heat, big and bold, but tasted good. it feels like it was 'made' in a chemist lab.
but again tasty and easy to drink.

Really smokey on the nose. Mineral stone, blackberries, camphor, licorice, cassis. This is mature and delicious. Time to drink these.

Blackberries, blueberries, licorice, and earthiness in the nose and flavor with herbal hints. Medium to long finish.
