  Decanted around 4 hours. Blue and black fruits, moss, leather and freshness. Tannins and acidity are perfect. There is a longish finish, but I found it strangely hollow. Was surprised as the mouth promised more delivery here. This is a good wine, but, with the name and the price, would have expected more. I think I’ll wait on the next bottle to see if those mossy, leathery notes develop into something special. Maybe they’ll bring something else along for the ride.
  
  I’m thinking I need to take a break from all the Rhones so I can recalibrate for any Bordeaux blends. It’s winter here, and my quest for hedonism is clouding some things. (The weather is cloudy, too.) OR, should I just give it up and slip into the big, slap me in the face streak I was taking?
  
  Obviously don’t talk to me about a silly dry January.

  Wine party at Normanton. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl 1855.
  Nailed it as Pavie, but thought it was 2005. Still good and going strong, drinking well. Vanilla oak now completely integrated. Cedarwood, blackcurrant, blackberries, spices, graphite. Still big long finish.

  Opened at Otto e Mezzo in HK. Slow-oxed for a few hours before enjoying over dinner.
  
  Not that much experience with Pavie, but this was an pleasant surprise. The nose was bursting with dark fruits - almost Napa like in style - and despite it's (relative) youth, this was going down very smoothly with well resolved tannins, and a bit of spice. The texture on the palate was very smooth, but didn't have the finish or complexity to match up to the other wines in the flight.
  
  Will drink at this level for many years, and has potential upside as well. Would be very happy to revisit soon.

  Impressive nose with smoke, tobacco, coffee and black fruit. This is rich with lovely sweet fruit and comes with a certain purity and freshness. Nothing sticks out on the palate. The finish is quite long but also with drying tannins, thats a little to much and makes you never want to leave the midpalate. I dont feel this will improve and I wouldnt want to loose its freshness.
  This is not a style of wine i would not normally seek out and its certainly a modern St. Emilion. But who cares when its dahm good.
