  • To Echo Buzz's comments from a year ago, this was quite the valiant survivor...Still has the $17.89 tag from Wades Wines...Taste was much as Buzz commented, but the Port-like qualities were less off-putting to us. Not much tannic structure (well, it IS 70% Grenache) Very enjoyable with Grilled Rib-Eye, where it held it's own. A special wine. The end of out '01 Carilzzles, alas.

  • Blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah....rustic cranberry, orange rim color. Nose of stemy strawberries, raspberries, cherry cola, dusty Kirsch alcohol fumes, dried florals. The first thing you notice is the 15.7 alc. Pretty hot and fumie. Not too off putting, as the fruit is very sweet.....so I go on drinking it in a Port fashion. Rustic wild berry fruit, bright and sweet, with some nice age character. Dried floral spice, stemy earth tones, leather, dark chocolate covered cherries, strawberry jam, dried tobacco leaves. Tasty, aging well.....but just not liking what the hot alcohol brings to the party. Might be better tomorrow.....I've had this open in bottle for a couple hrs. For now, a disappointment for a Carlisle.

  • First swallow was great. But, it just wasn't that fun to drink - alchohol dominating.

  • Great nose on this wine -- bright & rustic. Plenty of fruit and lip-smacking-good, but not very complex. A touch of heat on the finish as the wine warmed up (decanted for an hour & drank 2 bottles over a 3-hr dinner with friedns).
