Beautiful wine. Dark molassess fruit with a super long finish that is so smooth it belies the initial wallop of fruit and acidity. After about a half hour the wine mellowed a bit and gave more of that truffled sea spray nose I have encountered before. Just so smooth yet at the same time so much power ("iron fist in a velvet glove of the Languedoc").

I first drank this a couple of years ago at The Vineyard Hotel in Berkshire (great place). This bottle was even better: you get whacked at first with bright red fruit then the wine constantly evolves bearing fruit, truffles, earth, olive tapenade, smoked meat and towards the end burnt stewed fruit that was Burgundy like. 94-95

Metaphorically speaking, this wine is a thorough disgrace. Based on the nose and visual inspection, the wine has not moved an inch since it was bottled. When you put your nose in the glass, you're overwhelmed with cherry pie! Like a aussie shiraz on steroids.
On the palette, the wine is viscous, thick and coats the tongue. The approach is super-sweet. Tannins are integrated. I taste Cherry jam, loads of it. This is nothing like a French wine...
But the wine is somehow able to maintain it's poise and stature. A standout specimen. This is certainly not for those drinkers with a nervous disposition. Leave this one to the "big boys".

Outstanding: beautiful nose of gamey earth with truffle, taste of pepper, dark fruit, syrup, long finish.
