We opened this after grilling hotdogs with friends on 6/6/11. It had a ripe, unusual and intriguing bouquet of cola, plum, prune, sassafras, licorice, spice and toast aromas. The palate was ripe, smooth, balanced and well integrated with flavors of prune, plum, sassafras, spice and toast.

Dark, blood-black red. Blackberry and iron, hints of blood on the nose. Loads of kalamata olive and granite notes emerging. Sweet plums coming out with chocolate and hickory smoke/barbecue. On the palate quite dense. Pepper and black fruits, dates and smoky herbs. Hasn't really come together it seems. Some meat coming out on the palate, but ultimately a slight disappointment in relation to the incredible promise offered up by the nose.

Intense dark rich coloring. Round, mellow plummy spiced fruit. Tasty but simple. Well suited to the braised short ribs.
