  Full lifted aromas of jammy aged black cherry, raspberry, dried herbs and underbrush. Nose is all class and unmistakably aged as the complex earthy notes add character and depth. Palate has fresh smooth fruit and is awash in juicy acids. Medium body with good depth of flavor. Fruit is more fresh cut and less jammy than that of the nose. Not uber complex, but secondary earth notes are charming and deliver character that you can only get with bottle age. Medium+ finish. Terrific!

  1994 Smack-down consisting of one Chardonnay from Stony Hill and a total of five Pinot Noirs from: Brick House, William Selyem (Sonoma Coast), Broadley Vineyards Reserve, Ken Weight Cellars (Shea Vineyards), and Mt. Eden Vineyards. All wines were purchased upon release and stored in a cool cellar until consumed. All these wines were decanted. The red wine bottles contained sediment after years of resting undisturbed.
  
  Tied with the Brick House for the greatest Ullage, both at around 1-1/4”. Seepage was noticeable once the capsule was removed. The cork was not tight and could be pushed into the bottle. Still, the cork was removed in one piece with extra care – thankfully. Color seemed reasonable. Nose and palate were dominated by curry and cumin seed components. Some noted chocolate, but I couldn’t get past the BO in this bottle. Hoped these elements would blow off, but they didn’t. Later on, dill and rye toast elements popped up to complete the ensemble of bad flavors. Fifth or last place. Clearly flawed perhaps by a poor cork. Dead.

  Port-ish on the nose, mushroom-y, earth and meat flavors with subtle fruit of cranberry and baby strawberry on the palate. Delicious. Perfect structure, really beautiful. The finish lingers for 30 seconds +. Wish I could get a bottle or two of this, I would pay out the ass for this. Yum.
