  (BOURDY Chateau Chalon) Chëteau-Chalon Dear Friends, Since the Wine and Spirits Bourdy review came out, I've received a wonderful amount of interest in the 2000 Chateau-Chalon mentioned in the article. As the millennium release from the estate, this is one of the most limited wines they've produced since the 1990. With that in mind, please be patient with Niki here - she will allocate the best she can. Bourdy's Chateau-Chalon (the wine referenced in the Georges V quote as the finest white wine in the world) is akin to the Jura equivalent of DRC Montrachet or something like Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne. There are other versions of Chalon but none are Bourdy. The 2000 is from an incredible year - considered the equal of the 1945 or maybe even the 1934 in potential. It is produced from a terraced, rock ensconced hillside of 100% Savagnin that represents one of Europe's most historic and treasured parcels. Even the most famous Burgundian owners and vintners will give a humble nod to this site as one of France's most important, in cultivation since 1475 (more precisely, in cultivation by Bourdy since 1475). The ageing potential of this wine goes without saying - the extract, acid, tannin (yes, tannin) and overall strength of the finished achievement will outlive any other white wine produced anywhere in the world.
