Still alive and kicking. Smooth and resolved, with varietally correct tobacco leaf and green pepper notes showing. Not a world-beater but certainly enjoyable.

Josh Kurek's birthday bash (Somewhere way the fuck out on Long Island): Moderate bricking. Very mature: nose of sweet fruit with lots of secondary elements, some spice, mint herbs and a savory soy/meat thing. This is in a nice spot for me. The palate still has a lot of structure - solid tannins and acid, but the mid-palate fans out nicely with some plushness from the Cab fruit. Herbal, mint, dark plummy fruit. If you can't get this is CA cab blind then hang in up. Very balanced. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 16/20.

York Creek Vineyard (Los Altos): 13.8% ALC, 88% Cabernet, 12% Merlot - Initial nose of sweaty underarm. The nose was very similar to the 1975 & 1977. Showing some tart, almost sour notes on the palate. It certainly was the brawniest of the bunch with the finish leaving some drying tannins behind on the palate. I wish I had food with this one as I think it would have shown much better.

(Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon York Creek) Bricked, cloudy, medium dark red violet color; mature, saline, tart cherry, dried mushroom nose; mature but still tightish, ripe red currant, dried raspberry palate with near medium acidity; medium-plus finish

"Classic" Cali Cab Tasting: Really funky nose, which blew off to reveal a wine well past its prime. C

Cabernet Sauvignon vs. Bordeaux 1974-1985 (Lafayette, Ca.): Great smoky taste, nice, sweet, smoky taste, nice smoky finish. My #1 and Group #1.
