2016 Harwood-fest (Harwood Arms, London): Fairly full gold. Nose initially completely flat and slightly mouldy, but this blows off nicely to reveal a waxy, lanolin nose that becomes increasingly rich. Similar on the attack. A touch of honey at the edges. Some density here. Quite a scented top note, lavender almost. Dry, rich and plenty of interest. Wonderful condition too. Starts to show a little botrytis on the end with extended airing. A revelation compared to my previous encounter with this which was sour and spritzy. ****1/2

An evening through the Loire valley (Imperial Treasure SPD, Paragon): Our last flight of the night was a pair of Huets (blinded). My 2nd-time having this wine (first was during Sean's b/day dinner). I thought it was "unreal" then; Its still unreal this time - so so young, as if it's never aged at all. Some smoke, yellow-fruits on the nose. On the palate, high acidity and some green apples... but I don't find it quite as complex as the Dagueneaus. I wonder when will be the right time/window to drink this? Anyway, it's always a treat to be able to taste a well-kept old wine...

Difficult to describe this wine. Not at all unpleasant but strange. Perhaps I don't have much experience with Chenin Blanc. Golden yellow colour and clear. Blue cheesy nose. Very little fruit on taste. Acid predominates but not overwhelming. Medium finish. I think it's not doing too bad for a wine this old.

An Offline for Luke (28-50, London): Deep, slightly dull gold. Very full, pungent nose. Oaty, appley. Quite spritzy on the attack, an astringency too. Grabs one by the throat. Lots of freshly cut green apple, and a slightly cider vinegar note too, through the middle and finish. Not much weight/development/complexity through the middle. Searing acidity. Hmm 50 years too late or just not my thing? * for historical interest.
