Garagiste

(Chateau Gigault (Premieres Cotes de Blaye)) Bordeaux DEAL Dear Friends, Remember when Greysac was $10? This is less, and it's as good or better - it even has bottle age. This is one of those random, crazy opportunities that comes up once in a while - I'm not going to tell you this is 2005 Latour (or 1997 Latour for that matter), but it is drinkable and that's good enough for me at this price level (especially for a Bordeaux that is "at peak" - a scary thought). An offer like this irks me as a consumer because I actually bought 6 of these on pre-arrival five years ago for $13 (for research, of course) and the parcel we offer below has been perfectly cellared for the same amount of time for less than $10? That's annoying. So how is the 2002 coming around? Not bad I must say. Terroir? Not really. Complex character? Not yet anyway but it is a lovely little Bordelaise quaffer at this stage (that certainly shows its heritage) and a wine most of you will want en-mass at this price. I compared a bottle of my original 6 with a bottle from this stash and this parcel seems even younger. Perfect for a party or everyday, there's not much to say except this is real estate-grown Bordeaux from a known Chateau and this parcel has been sitting untouched since release at 53 degrees - it has never moved from the original storage warehouse and is in perfect condition (the cork on the bottle I opened looked like it was from 2006, not 2002 - it was so clean). Maybe I'll be surprised and this will continue to evolve and turn into something special over the next 4-6 years? If not, it's a perfectly nice bottle of new-style claret for drinking right now, any day of the week. For this price, intellectual dissection of the wine is probably unnecessary anyway... A crazy deal on Bordeaux that already has 4-5 years of bottle refinement. 2002 Chateau Gigault (Premieres Cotes de Blaye) STRICT LIMIT 48/person until we run out Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Bord6222
