  Portland Paulee (Oregon Historical Society, Portland OR): Awwwwww yea, this is bringing some classic George Clinton and I'm am here for all of it. It took about a half hour to warm up and get going, but it was a savory and funky bitch when it did with tones of sour red cherries, raspberries, cranberries, violets, licorice, earth notes, tobacco, and a touch of dried savory herbs. The Medium bodied feel is robust and seamless with crisp, medium+ acidity and resolved, medium tannins. This was just killing it on the night. This was all about the funky side of NSG and a rather old-school one at that. Many have cleaned up their act today and I certainly respect and enjoy that, but sometimes you just need to lay down the funk and nothing but the funk.

  {Bought on release, stored in passive and temp-controlled cellars. Sound cork removed with standard corkscrew. Opened and aired x 20 minutes to check the bottle and introduce air; an hour later cork pulled for second time. } Initial tight nose, browning rim with ochre/maroon color. Still burly big wine, lots of secondary notes now, continued to deepen and add complexity over 2 hours. Mature, smoky, rich notes, very Nuits St Georges. Really really good. Very good (not great) length and the best this has shown for me. Another great 02 Chevillon.

  4/6, good cork (20% soaked).
  Nose is mature, smoky, liquorice, some underlying red-toned fruit, soil and undergrowth. Medium bodied, liquoricey red fruit, smoke, quite rich, soft and round, fresh acidity, good length harmonious finish. Harmonious, enjoyable if not the most sophisticated.

  I'm so hungover I shouldn't be allowed near a keyboard, but last night my brother and I went at it and even though I told him I'm no longer capable of drinking four bottles that's what we did. This was the last and it would have had to be great to penetrate the descending fog. Fortunately it was, and I'm only writing this now to pay tribute to it.
  
  Remarkably fresh and fruit forward, would have been difficult to come within a decade if served blind. Cascading dark berry and cherry, lots of earth, somewhere in a happy place between rustic and refined. The plush palate was almost gushing through to a long, full finish. Despite my protestations, it was gone before we knew it and so was I. I don't believe this vintage is necessarily underrated but it absolutely deserves respect. The community drinking window I see is 2017 and that's so wrong I have to wonder if they all had the same wine we did. I'm pushing it out a decade.
