  • Vanskelig å gi poeng til en slik vin. Gammel men fortsatt mye liv igjen. Veldig lys farge, men både frukt og struktur i vinen. Duft av tobakk, tjære, nyper og etter hvert te.

  • Very light and transparent red color. Guessed it was a Burgundy, since it lacked the brownish Nebbiolo color. Old aromas with red berries, tar and some wet wool, which disappeared after a while. Quite tart and tannic on the palate, with pronounced acidity and not so much fruit left. The nose is best. Difficult to judge these old wines.

  • Consistent with previous tasting notes. Drinking nicely now but likely has a decade or more of a nice window.

  • Old Barolo Night (Bar-a-Thym, Singapore): Wonderful. This was the pick of its flight (alongside a '61 Prunotto and a '78 Bartolo Mascarello). Ageless at 60 years old, its nose did not have the salty, old smells of the 1961 Prunotto. Instead, this sweet and seductive, with lovely drifts of dried red fruit, dried rose petals, fresh herb and a hint of tar, all riding on a bed of earthier, meatier aromas. Fabulous smells. If anything, the palate was even better. Soft, silky and seductive, with beautifully resolved tannins, and fresh citrus acidity - still giving a nice sense of structure underneath wonderfully soft, and gently complex flavours of sweet red cherries and berries, then earth and tar and peppery spice, all this pulling away into a gentle, but insistently long finish. Just such a joy to drink. Beautifully, ethereal stuff. Clearly mature, but still drinking so very charmingly now. This has everything I like in classic old Barolo.

(Oddero Barolo) Light bricked orange red color with 10 millimeter clear meniscus; intriguing cigar box, tobacco, truffle, porcini mushroom nose with a touch of maple syrup; solid, truffle, mushroom, autumnal, ginger cake palate with remarkable grip; long finish (another brilliant showing by this relatively little known producer, WOTF for me)

(Oddero Barolo) This was sauvage and untamed as a Barolo I've experienced. This was all black tar, dark cherry/berry fruits and a little horse on the nose with some macerated flowers and rotting forest floor. Lovely deep, sauvage nose. Sauvage Piedmont style though. The palate was big and concentrated. Apparently alot of the fruit that went into this was from Vigna Rionda which would explain the massive palate presence still at forty plus years old. This really opened up and became much more of a complete wine after around an hour. Definetly a bit less finesse than the Fiorina but compelling in a differnt way for itas singular character within the context of Barolo. Fantastic wine that really seemed four or five years away from full maturity.
