Monthly tasting club "The Tasting Club" 2016-?; South America (@ RvD): In the bouquet a firm amount of sweetness, coconut, spices and red and dark berries. On the palate a sweet start with vanilla, cinnamon, ripe red and dark berries and luxurious oak. Good acidity and tannin and a good length. The wine is fully mature now, but there is no real hurry to drink it.
Right after opening this seemed to have enough structure left to stand up to the richness however, it quickly became flabby and unpleasant with too much tar and medicinal notes overpowering the fruit. Not a dead wine but probably better younger.
Dare I say that this might have been too young at 13 years? It was very good, but still seemed quite primary and unevolved. Blind, I'd have said 5 years or younger. Aromas and flavors of raspberry/blackberry ganache, spice, and a hint of gravel and herb. Definitely still has some tannic presence. Very tasty, and will age very well.
