This one is coming along just fine. If you are looking for a big Cali Pinot, probably too late on this. If you are looking for a bit or earthiness and some elegance with good fruit, you are a bit early. For now, it is drinking very well though. Nice nose, slight earthy funk, lots of cherries. Good texture, almost velvety but stops short. Lots of cherry fruit with plenty of depth on the palate. Tight layering. Nice finish. Glad to have one left.
Great color, fairly dark for Pinot, no signs of age. Nose really rips from the glass. Lots of plum, violet, raspberry and a licorice undertone...almost over the top? But nice Burgundian finish, like a rich Volnay. Lots of dark berry, well-balanced.
The '06 Rhys Alpine Vinyards is in a perfect place today with a bouquet of fresh cherry, pine, sweet herbs, brilliant minerality, subtle spice, and hints of ripe apple. On the palate, I found soft, fleshy textures with bright cherry, spice and brisk acidity adding vibrancy. It finished on hints of spiced orange, sweat herbs and licorice. This was a pleasure to drink.
