  Nose: Upon opening mulchy dark soil notes, a bit of bright cherry and cranberry and slight oxidative almond note. After an hour of air this wine really opened up to show a brilliant perfumed nose of dark cherry, garden vegetables (carrot), soil and sweet herbs. Eucalyptus and a nice soy broth note.
  
  Palate: Initially a nice cherry/cranberry note with mulchy soil, but as it got air the freshness became remarkable. Bright red fruited top notes, bits of spice and elegant earthy garden notes and a cool eucalyptus in the back palate.
  
  Finish: Like many old wines this goes the way of old oak, leather and cocoa in the finish. Such a fine experience.
  
  This wine provided a tremendous journey over about 2-hours open, and really saw a significant evolution. When the opportunity to enjoy pre-1960 Napa cabernet comes around there is some worry about condition, storage, etc because very few of these bottles were collected the way 50's Bordeaux was. This was a delight.

  Amazing to drink this piece of Napa valley history and equally amazing to see this wine’s evolution with air. The nose is demure at the outset but with an appealing vein of red fruit and pop of eucalyptus, though dominated on the palate by old oak and loamy notes. With about 20 minutes of air, the fresh attributes of the wine come alive, the volume on the dried red cherry, cranberry, and eucalyptus really emerge and this character lasts well for over an hour, eventually to wane slowly. A treat to see Napa from this era with such great character (actually quite similar to the 65 Krug Vintage Selection) and such individuality - you’d like to think you’d peg it as Napa (rather than Bordeaux) if served blind.
