  • Two hours in the decanter.

In rude health, this bottle is singing tonight. Perfectly poised between fruit intensity, tannin and acid integration and tertiary development.

A nose of dark fruits, violets and liquorice and then a beautiful swirl of tobacco, earth and leather towards the end.

On the palate gorgeous intense black fruit(plums, blackberries, black cherries) before notes of liquorice and Mediterranean herbs weave in to be joined towards the end by those tertiary flavours of leather, earth and tobacco.

A really plush rich mouthfeel, but balanced by harmonious acids and tannins. Together with an almost spearmint freshness the effect is to stop it becoming cloying.

Based on this bottle, this is in its sweet spot and while it has a good few years ahead of it, I can’t see it being in a better place than now.

  • Blind tasting with buddies, theme - reds from Mediterranean islands. Giacomo Tachis, the architect of Super Tuscany together with friends from San Guido ventured to Sardinia with belief in Carignan and its blend with Bordeaux varietals. Rich aroma of dried cherries, smoky plums, cigar box, old furniture, medicinal notes. Medium body, smooth texture, layered flavours, medium acidity, silky tannins. Feels a bit tired, I guess few years too late to taste.

  • Blind, stinky barnyard which I love, dark berries, leather, tobacco leaves, forest floor, balsamic raisins finishing on a very sweet and ripe note. Seems at it’s plateau where it should hold until 2025.

  • I should have let it breathe more. It got better as the evening wore on.

  • Had it on its own w/o food. It sat in the glass over 45 min. The nose was of bright berries, hints of soil and leather. The wine is nearly brown with a prominent gold rim. On the palate the acidity is prominent and the tannins are soft. The fruit stands up very well to acidity with berries, spice, melon rind. A rich mix. The wine will last well for a few more years, but this is the only bottle I bought.
