Stood up for a week. Lots of fine sediment at the bottom (fine bits and dark clouds). Bottom had to be discarded (over a glass!) as the dregs - even after being run through a coffee filter - had a bitter/foul nose and palate. Would definitely stand up longer to preserve more wine and to let this bottle show its best.
Juicy candied dark red cherry Clean fruit, but minerality, soil and clove spice Medium-to-high acidity that is a good foil for the ripe fruit. Shortish finish
Burgundian with California fruit. At peak window (an hour or two after decant for sediment?) drinking this felt like a 93 'wow' where the fruit was ripe and wide open with this lacy acidity. Other times felt like a 91-92, the detraction being a little angular/too spicy.
What resources did the wine maker have in '97 vs. today? Would like to learn more

Big Arcadian Tasting in ATL (1997-2008) (Antico Posta): This shows more California. Fruit intensity turned up here. It's silky, wonderful front and back end texture. Still young-ish in some ways. On it's own it's a star, I've loved many bottles of this over the years. A bit outclassed by others on the table tonight.

Odd wine. Opens with a nasty, off-putting chemical cabbage aspect that fades with air but never entirely dissipates, even after a day in the fridge. Some sort of reduction problem? A big wine for Pinot, with roasted plummy fruit that reminds me a little of some of 1997 Burgundies. Lots of rich fine velvety extract, nicely savory, no real sweetness, good acidity. But something is not quite right here.

Wow, this was a bit of a surprise. The last bottle I opened (different source, about 5 years ago) was equally complex but not nearly so opulent. I suspect it was still a little shut down. This continued to develop over the course of the evening. Lots of ripe but not overripe fruit, gorgeous nose.

Surprisingly alive and delicious. Smooth plum and earth flavors, good start and good finish. Saved a glass for second night and still really good.
