Jeff Leve review 2/13 spot on with oak a bit milder, but still full bodied, quite dark with only modest lightening and years to go. Also got some initial menthol and rich black cherry....merlot softness a real treat here..pretty wine if not for the classicist
If I hadn't known better, I would have thought this was from the mid 90s. Accelerated aging? Perhaps, but this was nevertheless an excellent wine. Only took an hour decant to get going. Medium ruby color. Red currant, black cherry, leather, licorice, eucalyptus, and nutmeg. Medium weight and silky smooth on the palate. Tannins beautifully balanced. If there's one shortcoming with this wine, it's the somewhat short finish. How much time is left here? Likely between 5 and 10 years, but I wouldn't wait too long to pop a cork.
San Diego WineSpectator.com Offline, 7/26/2014 (University Club, San Diego): Allowed to breathe in bottle 2 hours, then decanted and served. Opaque garnet-black color. Fantastic bouquet of bright fresh blackberries, blueberries, charcoal, lilacs, stony soil. Powerful tannins on the palate, full body with long finish. Very youthful with a great future ahead of it. My #3, group's THIRD PLACE.
Licorice, coffee bean, coconut, black cherry and an intriguing scent of menthol were the first things that caught your attention. On the palate, the wine is full bodied, lush, round and a little oaky, finishing in a flashy display of black cherries. This is showing very nice today.
