  • What a surprise. Maybe it was perfect bottle? It might be over the hill and slightly fading, but have us immense pleasure as really tasty wine. Ripe cherry, chocolate, leather and silky tannins with sweetish finish still delivering some salty garrigue. Wine of the vintage so far. I have always backed cooler years for chateauneuf wines. They offer more Burgundian finesse and less ripe body.

  • The bouquet is not extremely expressive, but there is some garrigue and ok barnyard. On the palate red and dark berry fruits and some laurel. Good acidity, still slightly sticky tannin and some bitterness. Harmonious and elegant, but I was not enormously enthusiastic. After revealing that it was a 1993 I was surprised it was still so very much alive. Day 2 however it was over and out. Although the wine was probably a touch too old, I nevertheless score it for day 1: 88
