Goodbye Lunch for Izzy (Rosebud Steakhouse - Chicago IL): I got lots of buttered popcorn and caramel corn aromas to start, while Izzy and Doug found cool ranch Doritos, so in either case there was a sense of childhood nostalgia coming from this wine. Clearly more forward and ripe fruit than typical Chablis, this was very 1997 but holding up better than most. Forward and easy to enjoy, even if less complete on the finish, showing less energy any textures than I'd prefer.

Friday Lunch (Rosebud Steakhouse - Chicago, IL): The nose was really good. Izzy & Doug were calling out cool ranch and sour cream doritos on the nose and I got some peaches and salt. This was a bit rounder, following the 1997 vintage, with fleshier and denser fruit than I had had before. Even with the low acidity, I'm still a sucker for the salty, lemony character of Raveneau.

White Burgundy and Tuscan Reds (Grant's, West Hartford, CT): [Served with hors douvres including blue cheese & fig tarts and truffle risotto in puff pastry] Interesting starter wine - aromas of grapefruit and apple. Medium bodied with interesting steely, mineral qualities. Likely at peak, although fruit was still prominent.

I really liked this wine, and it was a very welcome change to the immature '02 Chablis that I've been drinking too much of lately. This had a fascinating, smoky/peaty nose that I really liked. Lots of lemon and other citrus on the palate, along with a sharp, steely mineral note that seemed to persist forever on the finish. Very balanced. This should become even more complex with a little more age. Fantastic wine to pair with all kinds of seafood.

Medium golden color. A delicate nose that still has some fresh fruit. Virbrant for its age. Rich minerality with long finish.
