The evolution of this wine has been nothing short of phenomenal! I was going to pour it down the sink, but was too tired last night, so instead, I just put it in the kitchen.
It slowoxed all night and came out a primadonna!
Aromawise it is now strongly and a distinctly a Médoc wine. CS has taken over and it's a fairly rich, dense wine with good fruit, some tannic backbone, almost balanced acidity (carries a bit of unripeness) and a beautiful warm ball of home-made boiling jam.
Mid-shoulder. Wet cork. No oxidation. 2 hr slow-ox.
Delicious wine, but over on the rather thin end of the spectrum. A faint whisper, but still very much live. My guess is that they harvested in the middle of the heavy rains of 1980...
Lighter than "normal" Bdx with a maturing rim.
Nose drags towards CF with earty undertones towards what I expect from Bourgueil. Maturity is prevalent.
In the mouth, this is more Bdx than the Loire, with the earthiness rather towards the Left Bank. Thin. Thin. Thin. Tannins dissolved. Slightly acidic yet well balanced. Olive brine and leather. Not complex. Not quite my cup of tea, but delicious enough.
If you're stashed, no need to hurry. This will remain perfectly alive for a lot more years.

Top shoulder, pop and drink, still light blood red color, the nose was rather light, wet wood, dry nut and plum. The palate was enjoyable leaning to a bit sour with a medium smooth mouthfeel. The tannins have totally dissolved while the overall balance is still there, the aftertaste is medium. The wine has evolved after 1.5 hrs with a stronger and more attractive nose/mouthfeel. Overall, better than expected and still very drinkable and a nice experience to venture into this less noticed vintage.
