The 2001 Gran Clos was showing well after 23 years. Cork was in good shape and after the decant a good about of sediment was left in the bottle. Wine was not visually showing its age which was surprising. However on the nose and taste buds you detected aging elements. We decanted the wine and started our first glass and enjoyed over the next hour or so. The aroma was potent! Jolly Rancher, sweet dried dark cherries, herbal/cut grass, and fresh violets. Wife and I could not stop smelling this wine. So enjoyable. But after an hour, it started to fade into a vinegar note.
The taste had that sweet and sour cherry with hints of balsamic notes. Perhaps medicinal like a cherry robitussin, which is probably the aging elements. The tannins were well integrated and the alcohol was not overpowering. It finished with a date or slight bitter chocolate note. The finish did not last.
Overall, we enjoyed the wine very much. I would have scored this higher, but we expected more mouthfeel for a Priorat and a longer finish. Perhaps it was the vintage... since these wines are supposed to be BIG. This could have been bigger. We have a 2nd Bottle that we will drink in another year or two and see how it changes. Would recommend with cheese or something to offset the aging flavors.

Served today to honor the preference of a lover of Priorat, not necessarily to pair with the grilled chicken kabobs being served. I chose this bottle as it had some age. I opened it an hour before and served at slightly about cellar temperature. Shy nose but very nice, restrained Priorat with classic long and enjoyable finish. As host and grillmaster there wasn't the opportunity to evaluate it carefully but I have a bottle left .

Decanted thru filter at restaurant. Still a marvelous wine. Sorry that this was my last one.

Just an outstanding wine! 5 years since opening one and this just sings. Partially decanted at the restaurant, the rest came home with me.

Still very nice. This bottle had more nose that I one I opened on June 16, 2019. Served with a Mediterranean flatbread.
