Extraordinary experience - was expecting it to be shot - but it is still drinking well. I recently had a 1970 and the 1878 tasted virtually the same. showing signs of maturity and complexity - age but only in a positive sense. The nose carried hints of caramel, which worried me but the palate did not - absolutely beautiful palate. all aged dried apricots and aged marmalade. It was bigger and richer than I expected - my understanding is that a lot of Sauterne's have got got sweeter over the last few decades - but this struck me as having a similar residual to today's wines and it is obviously the residual sugar that has preserved it, along with the acidity, which was there to provide structure but did not obtrude. wonderful! I tried this under Nitrogen at the famous Arnold's wine shop in Cervinia - truly extraordinary place.
