  • Scents of dried cherries, sweet red berries, lavender, musk, balsam bough and sweet soil tones introduce the 1965 Clos des Papes, a medium to full-bodied, supple wine framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. This bottle displays more depth and density at the core but a bit less flesh than the 1965 Clos des Papes tasted a few days earlier from the same cellar, and the quality of the vintage makes itself most obvious on the long and penetrating finish. This is an understated and venerable mature Châteauneuf that is still drinking well.
