This is drinking beautifully right now. Lots of sappy cherry, strawberry and other red berried fruits here, framed by more savoury and darker-toned earthy, leathery, and mushroom flavours that keep becoming more prominent with air. The fruit still feels very youthful and intense on the palate with some fine grained tannin beneath, though there's a lot of developing complexity apparent already. Great balance with bright acids giving it good lift, and great length.

I tried this wine last weekend.1997 was a mediocre vintage in Burgundy. However, they can be very pleasant for early drinking. This did not show the heft and substance of the 2001 vintage of this wine that I had last year but it was very good. It had a very nice understated nose. The first day it did not show much in my opinion but became much more open and integrated the next day. Medium bodied. 89 points.
