1999 1er Cru Red Burgundies (East London): Slightly orange-tinged, but once again a wine in remarkably good shape considering the age. A good sweetness to it, full of still juicy and generous red fruit - raspberry and cranberry underpinned with an earthy forest floor, for me this was one of the most autumnal wines of the evening, really lovely.

Just at the beginning of its mature life, with ~21 years in the bottle - yet another one of those little reminders too many people leave unheeded that putting a bottle away for 5 or 10 years does not constitute "aging" your Burgundy. This has developed powerful earthy scents of maitake mushrooms and freshly turned soil. The palate is intensely stony, I might have guessed it as a Pernand or Savigny wine, but still has much of the sweetness and grip of that fleshy 1999 fruit.

Greater Spotted Beaunes - Two 1999 1er Crus from each main commune in the Cotes de Beaune.. (David P's): Damson fruit with a venison wellington nose, definitely some pastry as well as the sweet meat and the duxelles. With time some lime zest enriches the broad nose. Right up my strasse.

Good light raspberries, a light, pleasant red burgundy. Some tertiary, probably just starting that stage of life.

From mag. So much better all round than the 99 csj from mag alongside it. Smooth, caressing palate of sweet red/black fruit. A winner.
