Really quite amazing, cork fully soft yet not saturated with color, surprisingly with a good seal.
Obviously a huge wine, but brilliant in its balance and acid. Massive aromatics of black and green olive brine, fresh mediterranean herbs, smokey smokey dark meat, sizzling uncured bacon. Long, tannic, acidic and of course fantastic bloody meaty syrah fruit filled finish. Nothing shy about it.
Nowhere near over the hill, right at its peak, couldn’t show any better. Quite surprising given his old high abv style but, goes to show when you know what you’re doing, the product overcomes the tech specs. For 50 bucks try to find something from Ca that gives so much quality and interest, effortlessly at 20 years old.
Not a fruit bomb, not a boomer steak house centerpiece, just a completely enjoyable and memorable sensory experience. This coming from a complete German addict and burg freak acid head. Still can’t touch a properly aged chave or top producer cote rotie, but about as good as you’ll get out of Ca climate and dirt.

By the bottle at Noreetuh in NYC. This is really firing on all cylinders. Nose is ripe and rich, super extracted, punching you in the face with savory herbs, black olives, black and blue berries. Palate is smooth and rich but still has lots of acidity to keep it balanced. Red fruits on the palate with more savory notes: sage, olive brine, roasted mushroomy umami but also beautifully ripe strawberries, raspberries, blueberries on the end. This wine rocks.

Still plenty of savory fruit, structurally good, spice, leather... yum. Sorry to be last bottle.

Good, muted fruit, low tannin. Takes a minute to open up. Meh. Good not great, over the hill.
