  • Bricky color from the top but developed into stunning clear ruby as the wine opened up and we moved deeper into the bottle. Definitely needs glass time. Early nose somewhat smoky but again opened to fruit later. Early tasting saw little fruit and earthy tones but opened up really well. Long and memorable.

  • Great Wine With Great Friends (Cherokee Town & Country Club): Late night cellar diving... now things just started to just get insane. Ending the night with a DRC? Of course! My only regret was that this was a pop & pour and it would have been fun to follow this over the course of an entire evening. Nevertheless, it was so good and fully mature expressing notes of tobacco, English black tea, with an almost nutty finish. That said, it wasn't an old tired leather shoe. There is still a solid vein of fruit running through it. It is always a treat to drink a DRC with friends.

  • Magistral!

  • Served in a Zalto Universal. 1018 hPa, Root

Color is a crystal clear ruby with a lightly bricked rim. The nose was a beauty - balaton cherries, red currants and sous bois. Some brown spice elements and sandalwood build as it opens up in the glass over two hours. the palate is admittedly a bit mute at first. Some of the same elements as the nose, but definitely needed some air to get rolling. Once it did, everything built in intensity. The fruit was more lifted and the finish was long with brown spice and sous bois. Resolved tannins and elegant structure, this also gained weight with air. While I can see this being a profound wine in better vintages, this bottle was pretty excellent.

  • Casual Dinner with Friends (Ada St.): The nose here was impressively enchanting for the vintage with excellent depth and nuance -- mature dried black cherry, stem, black tea and dried Vosne spice. The palate still had fresh, round fruit with only moderate depth and length but the class and pedigree were clear. A memorable nose.
