A bottle I bought at Caveau Vignobles Jerome Quiot in Châteauneuf-du-Pape the other weekend. 14.5% ABV. €34 (the current vintage sells at around €25 which is more in line with the wine’s quality). Medium yellow-golden colour. Stone fruit, pineapple, some citrus, floral notes, fire stone and spice aromas on the nose. On the palate, the wine showed baked stone fruit, citrus, tropical notes, pineapple, a waxy note, butter, Chablis-like fire stone notes and lovely spice, with fresh, lively, medium-level acidity, a buttery and slightly waxy mouthfeel and average length. A nice, fresh, medium-bodied Châteauneuf-du-Pape blanc with average concentration that grew on me over time. I recommend serving at 15 degrees Celsius. The wine seemed to be aging very well, no need to hurry.

I also picked up the riesling nose that others mention. Waxy, petrol nose with burnt orange peel. The palate is another world all together, showing baked stone fruits, but also citrus freshness and a marzipan nuttiness. Subtley layered, this creeps in and really captivates you. Sort of like a strange Chenin Blanc at times.

On the nose, I almost thought this was riesling, with notes of smoke, petrol and melon; The palate is medium to full-bodied, with hints of pineapple, melon and flinty minerality; The wine does not feel perfectly integrated right now - it would be interesting to try again in a few years

Very slight in general, not much nose, and with a very funky finish which also disappears after a few sips. Barely perceptible color with just a touch of minerality. Inoffensive, but is that what you really want?

Helder lichtgeel.
