  • Wow has this wine evolved and man am I a fool for having drunk most of this far too early. Well, when you have one good bottle like this you cherish it and you brush away any regrets. This wine won't get a higher score from me for its rusticity but in terms of pleasure quotient, it merits a 94. It is also fascinating to see how much a wine can surprise in its evolution. Four years beyond Meadow's drinking window and I think it has arrived at where it should be. At least in the case of this particular bottle.
So here goes. What had been somewhat brambly strawberries on the nose has been taken over by wonderfully rich secondary aromas with just a touch of sous-bois coming through. Overall a rich brothy/earthy quality to the nose. Not delicate but ever so satisfying on a cool fall evening. This just screams burgundy at the top of its little grapey lungs.
The attack is now round and rich with a supple quality to the fruit that it certainly never had before. It has also filled out and gained significantly more weight. The mid-palate remains just a tad light but has nevertheless also filled in very substantially with round well integrated fruit. The mid-palate then segues into a still slightly rustic finish where the tannins have nevertheless integrated beautifully and where the overall effect is of almost picture perfect equilibrium between all the elements. In sum, the little rasp of rusticity is not a defect but very much an asset to this wine. The finish does not last forever, nor is it clipped. Rather, as the flavors fade away, you just want another sip to start the cycle over again. In a word, a joy to drink and absolutely at its peak. If you have some of this and it has been kept well, you should enjoy the heck out it. Or of course, it could be terrible. This is burgundy, after all...

  • Very nicely integrated and balanced. Improved greatly over a few years ago - now has nicely integrated and significant tannis, along with a fair amount of very nice dark fruit; a med-lite body, with a nice but not huge nose.

  • very nice open smoky nose of strawberries. Rustic but very satisfying. Light attack followed by a somewhat light mid-palate finish is light with some remaining tannins. Overall, a pleasant wine with an enticing nose but lacking a little stuffing and elegance to merit the score Meadows gives it (89).
