Part of all grand cru Burgundy tasting at Bymark . Darkest of the reds. Forward nose with lots of complexity and depth but in the end there is a strong wood note, not unpleasant, just stronger than the fruit. The palate more or less follows the nose iIn flavour profile; the wine is very structured and long. The longer it sat in the glass the more the dark red and blue fruit showed. Made to age, an old style wine. Lot of time left.

2002 Burgundy, round 2 (Noize): An odd one, this. On the one hand it was soft, red fruited, perfumed and truffley, dark and bright and juicy with cranberry; but on the other hand it was grippy, acidic and tight. A fairly long, saline finish. I enjoyed it, but I wanted more.
I see Stephen Tanzer felt similarly in 2019: "There's a juiciness here but it's cut off on the back by tight tannins. This wine, too, struck me as a bit Cabernet-like, and unlikely to soften or expand with further bottle aging. Erwan Faiveley described 2002 as "a great vintage that we totally missed," owing to high yields and to the long macerations that were done that year "because the color was not coming.""

Great color, very deep. An hour decant. A bit of funk on the nose that blew off in an other hour or so. A little heavier bodied than typical (a bit of over extraction?), but overall very nice. Not a classic Corton, but very good nonetheless.

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of medium ruby colour, with fading garnet rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of red fruit of cherries, black fruit of blackberry, oak notes of toast, animal notes of meaty, mineral notes of earth, sweet spice of clove, maturity notes of mushroom. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium (+) acidity, the wine has high tannin of grippy texture, medium alcohol and medium (-) body, with medium intensity flavours of red fruit of cherries and raspberry, floral notes of violet, oak notes of toast, mineral notes of earth. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Good quality Corton with a fairly intense nose showing decent complexity, with the red fruit evolving to blackberry as it opens, with some meaty, earthy and spicy notes, followed by a bit of mushroom. The palate is however less appealing, quite high in acidity and very tannic making the wine a bit too astringent despite its age. The flavours are decent in concentration, as well as the length. It is ready to drink now and can maintain for another 4-6 years.

Paired with cantonese food. Meaty and inky for a burgundy wine. Not recommended at all. The same as previous experiences.
