  • Bulging capsule. Due to the mollasses-like drop on the capsule, I assume it's still leaking. Level 3.4cm below cork. Bright medium yellow. Tropical fruit nose, lead by pineapple. Jellied sweets and a little hint of mint, but even waiting for about an hour brings no sign of hazelnuts. The entry is on the straightforward side, but the palate builds. On the 3rd day, with about a quarter of the bottle left, there is a little gold creeping into the colour and it isn't as bright. The nose has moved to a slightly creamy peach-citrus, with hints of marzipan, but still with no hazelnuts on show, as I'd hoped. Perhaps the signals are that this compromised bottle is exactly that. Close to very good plus, overall, which is a much more than decent showing in context.

  • Nothing to add to my previous note, the wine stays alive and well and will have quite a few more years to go.

  • 1st from a six-pack. A leaking, bulging capsule and a level 2.5cm below cork, which broke upon extraction - no surprises there, considering the leaking wine having compromised the cork's structural integrity. Both a green and golden tint to the medium yellow colour. White peach nose, with brown herbs, brown sugar, wax, crystallized pineapple and a lifted citrus note later on. Impressive. Then I looked at the notes made by respected tasters and one of them, Jancis Robinson in 2005 hit the nail on the head in particularising the brown I had detected - it was hazelnut cream! Yes! That's what it was, essentially. Bravo, JR!! Lovely weighted mouth with a whitish peach front followed by an apricot middle and a long pungent grapefruit finish. No obvious prädikat sweetness, as the sugars have morphed. Day 3 from a half: mint just before the lengthy, creamy finish. Some have been enjoying their last bottles, but I have just very much enjoyed my first. No fade and plenty in the tank. Between fine and fine plus.

  • Medium gold in color. Apricot, lemon curd, honeysuckle, some pineapple, but not very pronounced on the nose. More of the same on the palate, with some lemon and orange peel bitterness on the finish. This wine has a decent sweetness, but couldn’t stand up to a thai green curry. There is still acidity there, but not as high as I would have liked. Medium length finish.

  • Light gold color. Really intriguing nose of peach and tangerine, starting to evolve past the green citrus and mint aromas of its youth. The palate is light and zesty, with evident sweetness but with firm, cutting acidity as well. The finish is long with notes of underripe white peach, key lime, and savory herb. This was very fine. I'm sorry it's my last bottle, as it seems like it's right in a perfect drinking window.

(Donnhoff Schlossbockleheimer Felsenberg Spatlese) Nice wine. Nose of lime, lemon, minerals, quartz, creamed corn, wool. Very deep nose. Palate has the best acids of any '02 Donnhoff I have tried. Supple and delicate with nice concentration and a beautiful dissolve on the finish. Lemon candy flavors linger on the finish. Minerals linger after the lemon is done lingering too. Will last a while too. Very pretty, elegant and lacy Donhoff.
