  • Fresh and clean but lacking anything special. Felt alot better after 1h of air. Not my cup of tea but no faults either.

  • Singing and dancing, this has evolved into a marvelous old Rioja. Sorry to see the last bottle of this disappear from the cellar. What a magnificent bargain at $18 from Premier Cru back in the day.

  • Decanted for about an hour.

Dark red colored, slight amount of light browning on the edges, otherwise looks relatively young.

In contrast to some other tasting notes, the nose was fairly muted, I picked up some faint red fruits and that was about it. Much more powerful on the palate, lots of black cherry, red currant, cedar, pipe tobacco, and spice. The palate has a nice level of intensity and juiciness with plenty of acidity, but it’s still pretty tannic. Finish is pretty long here as well.

Between the primariness of the fruit and the heavy tannins I’d say this is probably 10-15 years away from peaking. Excellent wine and an outstanding QPR at around $25.

  • Cork was a bit tight, but got it out eventually. Fill is perfect; bought this on release, and it has been stored professionally since then.

Color is a beautiful ruby garnet with a bit of amber at the edges. Apparently this is 100% old vine Tempranillo.

This really has a delicious fragrance that is deep and complex; aromatics of raspberries, baking spices, sweet fragrant leather and green tobacco, crushed dried flowers, hint of cassis, warm loam and crushed rocks all vie for attention; nicely balanced between high notes and low notes; although the wine is at cellar temperature it seems warm and inviting with even a hint of church incense added to the aromas; intriguing and delicious! Aroma = 94

Flavor is a bit more subdued compared to the aroma, but it still impresses with a complex and long lasting array of flavors balanced between fruit, mineral, structure and acids; this has pleasing acidity though not exactly mouth-watering; mouth feel is silky with juicy red and black fruits bouncing around on the taste buds as this gains airtime in the glass; this is wonderfully balanced … “balanced” is the impression that comes to mind most with this wine so far; cassis and raspberry make up the fruit elements, leather and spice provide some savory notes, soil and stone add some bass, and the whole thing is held in place with mellowed tannins that still add a bit of coating to the tongue; finish is of medium length, integrating all the flavor elements discussed above and finishing with a palate “sweetness” that always translates into “soul” for me when it comes to wine; this has that in abundance! Flavor = 94

This is great to drink just on its own, but it will also add much to any meat dish.

  • Solid Rioja after decanting for one hour (PnP is weak and acidic) as it builds body and fruit to handle its sizable acidity. Nothing special or memorable, but for $20...
