Certainly alive and really rather a bruiser actually, with an impactful nose full of iron filings, rich cassis and toffee, fresh coffee, old oak, and smoke. The fruit is rich, succulent, and very muscular on the palate, conveying more punch than charm with lots of earthen, old oak, and smoky notes. The tannins have mostly melted away but this remains decidedly masculine in style. Divided between three of us, there was ample opportunity to re-evaluate and scrutinize over two hours. Upper mid shoulder fill with a saturated cork.

Edition Veuve J.C? & Fils, Bordeaux. Saved this auction bottle to celebrate 75th anniversary of the end of WW2. Although 1945 for a bordeaux enthusiast first of all means the best vintage maybe ever! Off course, the bottle has probably peaked. Still- the wine and the cork in quite a good condition. Good shoulder height. Decantation. The first impression was fresh and a little sweet, the wine tasted healthy. Very much wine left, complex yet elegant. Big smile. We drank it with mild firm cheeses over one hour, and it did not decline during that time. My first bordeaux from 1945 and actually this chateau. I am very impressed by the chateau , and look forward to the next bottle. Unfortunately I only had one 1945, and it seems quite impossible to get one for a reasonable price. Still, I have a bottle from the 70ties to enjoy.

Wine Monuments Man Chapter 4 (Berens am Kai 1 star Restaurant): Not blind, no decantation. Filing was middle to top shoulder. Signs for good cellaring. We discussed later if it would make sense to do it or not. We had no result. After a few minutes it profits from the aeration but after 20 minutes it declined again. Sweet and lactic note in the nose. Later mint tone and fresher. Not oxidized. Well drnkable but definitely over his peak. 91-92

Flickinger "Significant Cellar" Tasting (Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. "Green Ltd." bottling. Attractive tobacco and earth aromas. Very good mushroom flavors with some remaining black fruit, very well structured and textured. Good length. Very good.

"A Significant Cellar" tasting at Flickinger (Chicago, IL): Greens Ltd. bottling. A real surprise. Very powerful and alluring green spice nose, and extremely concentrated on the palate with plenty of fruit. Somehow still very much alive.
