  • A very powerful wine still! I openned 4 hrs in btl to serve and found tight in structure and tongue catching, but leaving in decanter for half an hr later, it shone as a top BDX. Dark brown cloudy, noble nose of old BDX, mouthful feeling, long after taste. A perfect conclusion wine among other 86 vintages red for her.

  • Robe encore sombre.

  • Not blind. Decanted for an hour or so, in a lineup of maybe 10 other reds. I’m not marking it flawed, but initially I wondered about TCA, as the wine was pretty musty. It was a touch muted too, but most folks thought it sound, albeit maybe not a great bottle. Anyway, there’s tobacco and dark fruit. Not too tough but easily the least favorite HB I’ve had.

  • Tasted double blind. This HB is drinking well with the 1986 structure shining through, transporting well that classic Bordeaux feeling. A bit muted Not very complex, this is still fun to drink. 93/94pts

TN: A bit muted on the nose. On the palate herbal, very herbal, with blue and dark fruit. Some meaty notes with time. A wall of fine tannins but with a lots of tension and stature. Quite precise and good.

Decanting: Not decanted, 1-2 hours in a decanter should be enough.

  • So young when compared to the 67 and 78. Black fruit, tar and figs. Inky and dense still at this stage. Needs time,

(Haut-Brion) This Haut Brion lived up to it's reputation of the funk in a glass. Mushrooms and loads of tobacco with tons of cassis and gorgeous minerality. Super intense nose. Really comes out of the glass roaring. This is my favorite Haut-Brion ever because if it's very distinctive personality.
