I had the 2007 of this wine 3 weeks ago which was an unbalanced and over oaked let down. 2008 was somewhat better but still not worthy. Earthy aromatics smell soapy. The taste is very much smucker cherry so ripe that any floral aromatics of Pinot is suppressed. Even knowing it is not the premier cru of Nuits St George, this wine is still so in need of any hint of character. 1 hour in the glass, the nose and finish is all vanished, just like Domaine Serene is gone from my shopping list.
Part of the blind tasting Oregon Pinot Noir. Finished 1/6 in terms of Group preference. Rest of the line up was Beaux Freres 2012 3/6 Argyle Spirit House 2008 4/6 Ken Wright Abbott Claim 2012 5/6 White Rose Estate Willamette Valley 2012 2/6 White Rose Guillen Vineyard 2012 6/6
Aerated with a Vinturi and decanted for one hour. Nose of cherry, plum and spice. Red cherry, forest floor and fine tannins on the palate. Leads to a medium to long, soft, dry finish. Medium bodied. Paired with dry rubbed, barbecued chicken.
