  • Promising but still very young. Hold for five more years.

  • A small comparison of Guigal La Turque 2010 and 2015. The 2010 is intense and versatile, showing plenty of Christmas spice and gingerbread. A confiture-like and raisiny ripe dark berry fruit and blueberry jam. Also black olives, meaty notes, chocolate and green fresh herbs. The palate has a satin texture and vibrant acidity. None of the wines were decanted and right out of the gate the 2010 had a better start, was more accessible. But the 2015 caught up with time and probably and came in on a par. That said, my preference from a hedonistic perspective would be on the fresher 2015.

  • A very hedonistic wine. Nose was full blast bacon, smoke and cassis/black fruit. Silky texture, coats the palate and provides significant attack that carries beautifully to a long finish.

  • Guigal's 2010 La Turque is a blockbuster wine with a complex, rich nose of blackberry, cassis, violet, and bacon fat. Ripe dark fruit on the palate is pure and clean with polished tannins and a bright acidity. Just entering its drinking window but you really ought to rest these a decade to bring out the expected development.

  • Decanted 3hrs. Very dark purple with more than a hint of brick at the rim. Very complex nose of dark berries, prunes and a whiff of bacon, cooked over the ashes of a dying campfire. Medium weight but with super concentration. The fruit is very pure - crystal clear in fact with just a hint of leafy greenness keeping things fresh. This reminds me of Vega Sicilia Unico in terms of its ripeness, purity and and overall quality. This continued to open out during the evening indicating a long life ahead. Very primary. Needs years - or decades.
