  • We opened nearly 4 hours and let this Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero (Castilla y Leon) - a member of the Vega-Sicilia clan. Dark, purple, murkiness on the eye...an "event gown" if we ever saw one! Perfume of
fabulous, still fresh red fruit, espresso and some toasty smoke that no doubt reflects the ageing of 14 to 20 months in French oak and another 15 months in the bottle before release. Despite it being night-time, we are keen on another whiff of espresso...it will not impact our sleep! Palate of elegant, slightly and subtly noticeable tannins at this point, mature red berries with a fairly long finish. She is dainty and delicate so be careful...we do not think the shock of decanting, if it can be avoided as air definitely necessary, is the way to treat her. She could be very temperamental!!! Incidentally, the QPR for a 17 year old wine is, well, a big yippee!!!

  • Nice wine here, but it doesn't have the stuffing to hold up to all its American oak. It's a shame because the fruit is a very pretty red cherry with bright acids and the wine is extremely classy, even regal in a fairly light weight package. But the bouquet is all sawmill and the finish is rough and woody with oak tannins. Still, I enjoy it despite the forestry. Drink now or so.

  • Classical Spanish Wine Regions: Garnet red. A firm amount of deposit in the bottle. Deep and beautiful bouquet with dark berries, caramel, oak, sweet licorice, mushrooms and autumn forest. On the palate dark forest fruits, oak, sweet spices like cinnamon, good acidity and melted tannin. A wine at the end of its peak, but still a great pleasure to drink. Drink very soon!

  • Campfire, old damp wood, plum, tobacco, cocoa, berry. Still ample tannin behind a veil of sweet old wood and pert acidity. Pretty good, likely not getting better at this point.

  • Lovely drinking at the moment.
Good balance of fruit and secondary notes coming through. Oak still present.
Cassis, chocolate on the palate. Tannins still present.
Suspect this will keep going a couple more years.
