Pausing for the Cause 2022 (Chicago, IL): Quite stern and structural, and probably my least favourite of the three Ampuis tonight. Hard to get much of a read on, this was generously dark-fruited with a little bit of leather and smoke thrown in. Still seems too young, unlike the 1998 and 2000, which were more open for business.

January Rhônes (Chicago, IL): Somewhat oaky, but at least there's fruit. Served next to the Jaboulet La Chapelle, at least you get some sweetness and something else other than tannin in this bottle of syrah. Despite that, this is still a blocky, charmless wine, and I suspect the comparison next to the Jaboulet did this wine favours, as in a vacuum I don't think I would have liked this anywhere near as much.

Still very good wine; decanted - opened up relatively quickly. Flavors did evolve with air indicating this has more time

Has a nuanced herb and pepper palate. Light celery seed, some astringency. Med/- tannin. Cesar chest palate. What a treat. Loads of life ahead.
