  • Pre-premox white burgundy can be satisfying in a way that young burgundy cannot achieve. Exhibit A, this marvelous Corton Charlemagne, deep, rich and elusively complex. Still a bit tight after all these years. The fruit is hard to identify since it has morphed into something beyond. Shortly after opening there was a most attractive scent but at the restaurant it had disappeared. Could it be due to pumping out air with the VacuVin?

  • A wine that defies its age. Good verve and strong acid profile for a 1990. Nose opened after 30 minutes with muddled lemon notes. Energy and tang on the finish. Subtle vanilla aromas and flavors outline both the nose and palate. Drink now but bottles in this condition will last for some time yet

  • Lovely gentle delicious aged white Burgundy. Medium yellow color which turned slightly gold after a couple hours in the glass but stayed delightfully fresh and vibrant throughout the evening. Not a hint of butterscotch much less oxidation. This seems like it will last almost indefinitely.

  • Medium-light golden yellow in color with no signs of aging. Full, forward & attractive nose of complex, ripe fruit aromas of citrus notes of lemon/lime, grapefruit & stone fruits with overtones of mineral/limestone & chalky, floral notes of honeysuckle, spices, some honey, earthy, a hint of vanilla & toasty oak. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, complex & firm, rich, ripe fruit flavors of green apples, lemons/limes, & grapefruit with minerals, stony, some spices, a touch of vanilla & toasty oak. Crisp long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present and appears to have the structure and fruit to continue developing further with additional aging although it is already 26 years old.

  • Aaaahhh... pre-96 mature burg... why don't they make those anymore?

Color is surprisingly clear and unevolved. Looks like a young wine. Nose and palate reveal the wine's age. Almost velvety, slight oily texture. Everything resolved and coming together nicely. Didn't detect the over-ripeness this vintage is sometimes criticized for. A bit of lanolin. Not as good as the 1989 and 1992 of this, but a treat nonetheless.
