Served blind to group of mostly “expert” tasters. Most thought 10-20 year old Pinot. Silky smooth tannin but not boring. Hints of cola and cherry. Blows your mind a wine of this age in such perfect shape and so enjoyable. Great fu blind btw.

3 members of the Commanderie de Bordeaux's Philly Chpt had this wine blind at lunch today. We went through the progressions eliminating differents appellations and finally said it was a very well-aged St. Estephe. Beautiful burnt wood, grafite, crimsin rim, but after an hour lively brambly fruit and a tinge of spice emerged. Never understimate the quality of an aged Ridge Zin. An exceptional wine 45 yrs old.

1970 - 1978 Ridge Zinfandels (Tom's House, Palo Alto, CA): Reserved nose, some subtle spices. Makes up for it in the mouth, just beautifully balanced and elegant. That sweet aged fruit that's common in most of these but drier than some of the others. Some floral notes and decent acidity. (my 1st, group's 1st)

Shockingly vigorous, still some fruit, cinnamon, a delight to drink.

Fantastic older Ridge zin. Complex, spicy, balanced; still a great pleasure to drink.
