  • Dark red color, nearly opaque. Aromas of freshness and maturity - red fruit mixed with some roasted meat, truffle, beef broth. Palate has very pleasant mix of blueberry, plum, cherry, roasted meat, and leather, carrying into a medium-long finish. Some vanilla notes appear after some time in the glass. This is drinking at a very good place for my tastes and is a compelling reason to cellar these wines. Lacks the extra dimension of a great Hermitage, but is in the neighborhood. Drink or hold.

  • Perhaps this bottle, but starting to fade. Still has a seductive nose of fruit but thinning out on the palate. No rich fruit or savory elements, this ATP selection was much thinner and somewhat tart. Fruit in the background but nothing that actually reminded me of a Syrah! Disappointing. Certainly drinkable (we finished the bottle, no prob...) but in the context of great Ridge wines, definitely second tier.

  • A wonderfully lush and elegant wine. Anise, tar, blackberry and wet earth in the nose, with an appealing tiny remnant of young Syrah's typical pepperiness. Rich dark fruit (cassis, more blackberry) up front, concentrated but without any hint of being jammy and overdone. Slight smoked meat in the middle, yielding to a wonderfully tart finish that lingers, and beautifully mellowed tannins lingering behind. Fantastic bottle.

  • Great wine! Ridge predicted peak date was about 2011, looks about right. Still nicely structured, no hint of oxidation, nice deep red color. Lots of fruit on the nice with a long finish. Could still go another couple of years, but I don't know how much longer than that.
