Each bottle is a bit better than the previous one. This is a typical, cassis scented Pauillac that is classic in structure but shows slivers of sweetness. Wonderful food wine that is all about balance and bones versus flesh. There is a lovely violet note on the nose. Very good. (90)
Classic and masculine on the nose, leather, smoke, graphite, cigars and cedar. Fresh and surprisingly elegant in the mouth. Earth, smoke, cassis on the palate. Good definition, but slightly missing some stuffing.
Quite similar at the same age to the 89, an elegant wine full of finesse, understated fruit and power. The downside is a lack of intensity and stuffing. HB is anything but a typical Pauillac, which depending on the bottle ressembles a St.Julien, Margaux or, in this case, a Haut Medoc CC, Cantemerle or pre-Magrez La Tour Carnet. The wild strawberry and red cherry flavours are beginning to wane and there is a certain bricking to the colour, so probably best drunk over the next two years. Very enjoyable but not a great wine.
