  • Decanted 5hrs. Insane bottle of wine. Amazing.

  • Didn’t pay close attention, but this seemed to be a well balanced, resolved Cabernet. Good and enjoyable.

  • The color belies the actual age of the wine. It's still fairly intense purple. There is some bricking but it would be hard to pin this on 38 by eye balling it. It's not real harmonious. Showing age here, freshness there. Notes of advanced oxidation are there but so is cassis and cedar. The fruit is decently rich still with the density of color following onto the palate. Not all that complex though. The age hasn't really made this all that more interesting. The worst thing was that there was a powerful tartness. Possibly some out of control tartaric additions? That was quite distracting. Other wise it's a solid age Cab. A touch better than more basic bottles but all in all it was likely more enjoyable beyond 10+ years ago. A fun bottle for the money.

  • Stood up earlier in the day for sediment. Ah-so'd the cork about an hour before dinner (pan seared prime bone in ribeye) and poured a small glass. Not unexpectedly it was a bit dull and the slightest hint of funk which I expected / hoped would blow off. After 30 minutes or so I could tell the initial glass was improving as the fruit started to strut its stuff and the funk blew off. Enjoyed with dinner and followed another hour or so after. The wine continued to improve over the course of ~3 hours. Just a lovely old Napa Cab, pure red fruit and violets. A wonderful bottle of wine that I purchased at auction a year or two ago for not much more than a song. I would imagine at this age bottle variation and storage conditions will be the biggest factor, but this bottle was sound and still fresh even though the cork was soaked through and there was a bit of gunk around the cork under the foil. I have another that I'll drink up in the next 24 months.

  • This bottle was surprisingly fresh (the previous two were dead).
