Burgundy Evening: Meursault and Gevrey side by side (Grabouw, Western Cape): Light, mahogany to a browning rim. Relatively developed tertiary nose with forest floor, sous Bois, wet veg alongside a tarry note, with dried cranberries and crushed rose petals. Attractive nose, lifted with an appealing perfume. The entry is juicy with more fruit than expected. It hasn't much definition but has a tingling fresh acidity underneath, pushing the wine forward. Bright, charming wine, perhaps without the nuances one expects from Gevrey. Didn't blow me away.

Paradoxically, this shines most aromatically. A serious 93-95 there; great earthiness, and G-C typicity as the bottle opens. A bit of a dud, relatively speaking, on the palate -- so-so fruit and a clipped and fairly harsh (at times) finish. No vintage badness in any case. Slightly better on the palate and this would a re-buy if the price would ever be right, which it seems it won't be for this producer, sadly....

Gave it the Fourrier shake before decanting. Mature mushroom, sligth hard edge but good delineation. Well balanced and good mouthfeel. Excellent food wine with slow cooked brisket.

Dusty milk chocolate cherry cordials and lingonberry. Jane got mushroom. Glad I opened this last half bottle sooner then later.

From a 375mL. Mmm. Rooibus, leather, pungent game, fairly intense 04 acid. Dense but lightweight. Very nice.
